A HOST of events are taking place in Flintshire to mark Refugee Week.

Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

Established in 1998 in the UK, this annual festival aligns with World Refugee Day, celebrated globally on June 20.

Next week marks Refugee Week - and Flintshire City of Sanctuary, alongside Theatr Clwyd, Asylum Link and Flintshire County Council, has organised an array of events to celebrate it.

The following events take place at the St David's Building on the Daniel Owen Square in Mold. All are free of charge but pre-booking is advised.

On Tuesday (June 18), there will be a women’s singing session led by Welsh musician Lynwen Haf Roberts. Lynwen will guide you on a musical journey using a range of languages. It will take place from 1.30pm until 3pm.

On Wednesday (June 19) from 10am until 11.30am there will be a pre-school lullaby session with Lindy from Singing Mamas. Lindy uses call and response technique to build connection, create beautiful lullabies and enable singing from the soul. Women with or without babies are welcome.

On Thursday (June 20) between 7pm and 8.30pm there will be a creative dance session with Theatr Clwyd dance associate Angharad Jones. No dance experience is necessary. Everyone of all ages are welcome.

Maire Greaney a trustee of Flintshire City of Sanctuary, said: "The vision of Refugee Week is for refugees and asylum seekers to live safely within inclusive and resilient communities, where they can continue to make a valuable contribution.

"Refugee Week activities work towards this vision by helping to bring about more informed and welcoming attitudes towards refugees and asylum seekers. Refugee Week is an umbrella festival, and anyone can get involved by holding or joining an event or activity that is aligned with Refugee Week’s shared values and principles."
