AN INQUEST has been opened into the tragic deaths of three teenagers in a road traffic collision.

Dafydd Hûw Craven-Jones, of Tanyfron, Wrexham, Morgan Jones, of Coedpoeth, Wrexham, and Sophie Chloe Bates, of Stafford, sadly died in the collision that occurred on Cannock Road, near Penkridge in Staffordshire, shortly before midnight on Saturday, May 25.

At Stoke Town Hall on Monday (June 10), inquest proceedings were opened in relation to all three teenagers' deaths.

Emma Serrano, area coroner for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, said that Morgan Jones, a 17-year-old farmer, died of a severe head injury due to a road traffic collision.

Miss Serrano said that Sophie Chloe Bates, aged 17, died at Queen's Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on May 28 from a traumatic brain injury due to a road traffic collision.

The coroner added that the cause of 18-year-old Dafydd Hûw Craven-Jones' death is unknown at present.

A full inquest into all three deaths will likely take place within in the next four months, pending further investigation by the police, Miss Serrano said.
