A FLINTSHIRE homebuilder has helped point a new orienteering project in the right direction by providing a funding boost.

Aura Wales successfully applied to the Love from Anwyl fund, set up by Anwyl Homes to help the community around its Summers Bridge development in Deeside.

The £500 donation has been used towards new signposts and maps for a guided course around Wepre Country Park in Connah's Quay.

Daniel Font, of Aura Wales, said: "The new route at Wepre Park will launch later this month in time for the summer holidays. Our aim is to give families, individuals and other groups a fun way to get outdoors and stay active and the new signs will be permanent. Walkers can collect a free map from the visitor centre, from one of the postal boards, or print one at home from the Aura website."

Aura Wales also hopes to provide orienteering taster sessions for different groups, including women and girls only and LGBTQ+, while providing accessible programmes for people with disabilities and in partnership with local SEN schools.

Dan added: "Our aim is for the project to be inclusive and accessible for all. We'll also be opening up the scheme to local youth services to help those facing poverty.

"We will have different maps available for daily mile-long walks and the longer course. There are also links on our website to the local orienteering club, which is open to new members who want to enjoy this fun hobby on a regular basis.

"We're grateful to Anwyl for the funding and helping us to kick start the project."

Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said: "We're really pleased we could help Aura Wales get this project off the ground. It's great to be part of a scheme that is encouraging families in Flintshire to live heathy, active lifestyles and we hope lots of people from a range of different backgrounds will enjoy the new course."
