A FLINTSHIRE mother has expressed concerns after being refused entry to a recycling centre due to her adapted vehicle not meeting the barrier height requirements.
Debbie Jones, 56, visited Sandycroft Recycling Centre earlier this week with her daughter in their adapted wheelchair vehicle.
However, upon arriving at the site, she was refused entry as the height of the car (2.7m) exceeded the maximum height of the barrier.
Debbie from Connah's Quay explained: "The two operatives would not let us in. Even after I explained the vehicle was for my daughter who is a wheelchair user - it made no difference.
"The exit barrier was open so I asked if we could go through that and they still said no. Absolutely disgraceful."
At the site, Debbie called Flintshire County Council to explain her situation and was told to expect a call back. Yet, this did not happen and so Debbie had no choice but to leave.
She continues: "I am facing so much discrimination at the moment with my daughter transitioning into adult services. I don't know why they feel the need for height barriers."
Katie Wilby, Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, said: “We are aware of this incident and are in direct contact with the customer.
"We take all complaints seriously and a full investigation will be carried out. Our aim to is provide an accessible and courteous service to all residents.”

Last month, Flintshire council reduced the opening hours of Household Recycling Centres across the county.
This decision came after the budget position was taken into account to reduce costs while also preserving jobs.
Since the situation unfolded, Debbie has confirmed she will be raising the matter with her local councillor to address the accessibility of recycling centers for all residents in Flintshire.
