FIREFIGHTERS were called to charity offices in the centre of Wrexham yesterday (June 4).

At around 12.30pm on Tuesday, the fire alarm at the AVOW (Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham) on Egerton Street was triggered, leading to the office being evacuated and the fire service attending.

Following an investigation, there was no major damage and the cause of the fire was identified as a faulty item in the kitchen.

Eye witnesses say two fire engines were called to the scene. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

The Ty Avow building hosts a variety of voluntary organisations, including Barnardo’s, Vision Support, Snap Cymru, Polish Integration Support Centre (PISC) and Cloud 9 for Life Counselling.

Also based there is AVOW’s volunteer bureau, community development services, a payroll service and comprehensive support to voluntary and community organisations.

A spokesperson from AVOW said: "Our fire alarm triggered at approximately 12.30pm and we successfully evacuated all employees and visitors in the building within minutes.

"Everyone was completely safe, there were no injuries.
