A WREXHAM woman who was found to be more than six times the cocaine limit has been banned from driving for several years.

Gemma Dolan, of Bala Road, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old admitted two offences of drug driving, both of which took place on December 4 last year in Wrexham.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court officers stopped a Peugeot vehicle on Holt Road on the day in question.

Dolan, the driver, was drug swiped and gave a positive reading for cocaine.

Following her arrest, her blood was tested.

The results showed she had more than 400 microgrammes of benzoylecgonine (a cocaine breakdown product also known as BZE) per litre of blood, the limit being 50.

She also had more than 65 microgrammes of cocaine per litre of blood, the limit for that substance being 10.

Ms Jackson said the defendant had seven previous convictions for 14 offences, one of which was driving with excess alcohol in 2019.

She was also banned for three years in January this year in relation to an offence of driving whilst disqualified, which resulted in a suspended sentence.

The Leader:

Stephen Edwards, defending, made no submissions to the court, having heard District Judge Gwyn Jones' prior recognition of the fact Dolan's drug-driving pre-dated the offence for which she'd received her suspended sentence.

The District Judge handed down a £140 fine for driving whilst over the limit for cocaine and no separate penalty for the BZE offence.

Dolan must pay a £56 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

She was banned from driving for 46 months.
