AN HISTORIC pub in Wrexham is set to reopen this month after shutting its doors earlier this year.

The Horse and Jockey, located on Hope Street in the city centre has been closed since February.

Star Pubs and Bars, who own the building, have now confirmed that the pub will reopen later this month, although a specific date has yet to be announced.

The pub will re-open under a temporary tenant, with Star Pubs and Bars still on the lookout for a permanent tenant.

A spokesperson from Star Pubs said: “We are delighted to say the Horse & Jockey, Wrexham is expected to reopen later this month with a temporary operator at the helm.

"We are also still recruiting for a longer term tenant, so if anyone is interested in leasing The Horse & Jockey they can call our recruitment line on 08085 949596 or visit www.starpubs.co.uk.”

The grade II listed building dates back to the 17th century, and as well as being a pub, has also been cottages and a cobbler’s shop.

It was earlier known as The Colliers, and was re-named in honour of Fred Archer, widely regarded as one of the greatest jockeys of all time, who rode at nearby Bangor-on-Dee.

The popular pub, renowned for its infamous thatched roof is advertised on the Star Pubs and Bars website as an "iconic pub in Wrexham city centre".
