MEETING new people and being part of the community is the best part about running a pub, for this week's Leader pub of the week.

This is an opportunity for landlords and landladies from across Wrexham and Flintshire to have the chance to showcase their establishment.

It's vital to support our local businesses.

If you would like your pub considered to be featured, simply fill in our online Q&A or if you would like to chat or nominate a pub, email claire.pierce@newsquest.co.uk

THE LONG PULL, Wrexham

Based in the middle of Wrexham, the Long Pull is a popular city centre boozer under the management of landlady Lisa Lock.

Lisa has been at the helm at the Long Pull for the last 14 years and has had plenty of wonderful memories over the years.

Formerly known as the Old Vaults, Lisa changed the name to the Long Pull due to the familiarity of locals.

A major refurbishment in 2022 is a highlight of Lisa's tenure, with the pub a shadow of its former self.

Lisa and her team pride themselves on their work in the community, she added: "We are a big part of the community.

"We do a lot of fundraising for charity and recently raised money to have a defibrillator installed outside.

"We are also the official afterparty for Wrexham's first Pride event in July, which we are looking forward to."

As part of being at the heart of the community, the pub regularly hosts dominoes and is looking to re-introduce other teams moving forward.

Lisa added: "We have dominoes teams every week and we are looking at re-introducing pool and darts teams.

"We also have karaoke four nights a week, with bands on Sunday afternoons starting from the end of May."

With numerous pubs and restaurants in the hospitality sector closing, it is a tough time to be running a pub, with Lisa saying that's the hardest issue faced at the minute.

She added: "Cost of living is a big one for the whole industry but we manage to keep our prices as low as possible and the customers keep coming back."

Despite the current pressures, Lisa certainly thinks it's worth it for the people she gets to meet on a daily basis.

"The characters we get to meet everyday, so many of who we now class as friends," said Lisa.

"There is always a story to be told, we are a family in the long pull and we love it."

And of course, we had to ask the inevitable question of any ghostly goings on at the pub.

Lisa said: "We do have experiences of ghosts in the pub and even have a video of a glass being moved along the floor!"
