A CROSS-sector collaboration between Breast Cancer Now, Breast Test Wales and Asda, is seeing mobile breast screening units located in Asda car parks.
Used by Breast Test Wales as part of the NHS breast screening programme, this is a bid to increase convenience and visibility of vital breast screening services among women in Wales.
Asda is currently hosting mobile breast screening vans in the locations of Pontprennau, Queensferry and Ystralfera, and is working closely with Breast Test Wales, to identify further locations where vans can return or be set up.
This initiative – which is being rolled out in Asda’s 28th year of supporting breast cancer charities through its Tickled Pink Partnership – is a continuation of Asda’s commitment to supporting early diagnosis of the disease.
It aims to help normalise breast awareness, encouraging a million more people in the UK to check their chests more regularly and raising crucial funds for Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!
Through increasing visibility and convenience of screening, this positive initiative will play a key role in encouraging more women to take up their breast screening invite.
Rachael Franklin, director of fundraising, communications and engagement, at Breast Cancer Now said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Breast Test Wales and our long-term partner, Asda, have come together to make vital breast screening service more accessible to women across Wales.
"ASDA’s car parks are a great location both for raising awareness of the importance of breast screening and placing the service somewhere convenient for women to attend.
"Breast screening is a key tool for detecting breast cancer early, and critically, we know that the sooner the disease is diagnosed, the more likely treatment is to be successful.
"As such, we welcome this important initiative which will help us raise awareness of breast screening and encourage more women to attend when invited, across new areas of the community.”
Dean Phillips, Head of Programme for Breast Test Wales, said: “Breast screening looks for breast cancer before symptoms show. Finding breast cancer early means there is the best chance of successful treatment and survival from breast cancer.
“We work to make sure breast screening is available locally and is accessible for our communities in Wales. We are so pleased that Asda is committed to working with us to provide a number of convenient locations for a breast screening mobile unit.
