A WREXHAM village pub has worked hard to rebuild its reputation following a disappointing one-star food hygiene score earlier this year.
The Duke of Wellington based in Ruabon has announced it is 'overjoyed' to get a five-star rating back from the Food Standard Agency.
In February 2024, the establishment located on Duke Street was devastated to receive a one-out-of-five rating after being assessed the previous month.
However, a re-evaluation has confirmed the team are on track to continue satisfying customers with its friendly service and delicious food.
Pub spokesperson Neil Coates said: "Our plans are to build up the demand for food now as when we took over the pub back in August last year the kitchen was just an empty room so we’ve started from scratch.
"Being new to the area it’s taken time to build a reputation for food - but it's all home cooked from fresh and right now the top items on the menu are our steak and ale pie, apple crumble and Sunday roast.
"We are overjoyed to get our 5 star rating back as it was due to an admin error as opposed to anything to do with cleanliness or cooking procedures. In fact, the Food Standards agency commended us on the cleanliness of the kitchen as well as the maintenance of records."

On Tripadvisor, one review commended the pub for its "home-cooked traditional style food, amazing service and welcoming atmosphere" while another said "would recommend to anyone."
The family pub has been very popular with locals over the years and can't wait to get the ball rolling with plenty of outdoor space for customers to enjoy.
Dogs are welcome with plenty of on site car park spaces available.
