PEOPLE have been urged to stay away from a river near where firefighters continue to tackle a huge chemical plant blaze.
The multi-agency response to the fire at Synthite in Mold is continuing.
Firefighters remain at the scene damping down at the factory fire on Denbigh Road, and it is thought they will continue operations overnight.
Synthite has said that no chemicals were released by the fire in the site's production facility.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) is urging people to stay away from the River Alyn in Mold as a precaution.
Mike Plant, from NWFRS, said: “Due to the ongoing firefighting control measures continuing onsite, Public Health Wales has advised that keeping windows and doors closed is no longer required.
“Natural Resources Wales’ officers remain on site as part of the on-going operation and will continue to monitor the local water courses and take any necessary action to mitigate any impacts.
“As a precaution, they are asking people not to go near the River Alyn and to also keep animals away from the water. People are also asked to keep away from the cordoned area as firefighting continues on site.”
Natural Resources Wales, Public Health Wales and Flintshire County Council Officers will continue to support the emergency services by providing advice to help minimise the impact on the community and environment.
Mark Hughes, Natural Resources Wales' (NRW) duty tactical manager for North Wales, said: “NRW officers are currently supporting the emergency services response by providing advice to help minimise the impact to the environment.”
North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are assisting the Health and Safety Executive with its investigation.
The roads surrounding the site will remain closed for at least another 24 hours.
