WREXHAM Council says it "welcomes" the Welsh Government's change in direction on the 20mph limit.

Transport Secretary Ken Skates has pledged "targeted change" to the 20mph policy in Wales.

Mr Skates has said the degree of change in the number of roads that revert to 30mph will be decided by Wales' local authorities.

People are urged to contact The Leader (news@leaderlive.co.uk) with their suggestions for which roads should revert back. Mr Skates has said he will endeavour to visit the roads which are suggested the most.

Wrexham Council issued a statement on Wednesday evening following the Welsh Government's announcement.

Councillor David A Bithell Deputy Leader with responsibilities for strategic transport, said: “Further to the decision made by the cabinet secretary on reviewing 20mph zones, Wrexham Council welcome the change in direction but we are awaiting the guidance from Welsh Government, this is expected in June.

“I would like to be clear that not every road will revert back to 30mph. Wrexham Council support 20mph outside schools and completed this programme prior to the change made by Welsh Government, we have no intention of reversing this decision."

He added: “We are also very mindful of the costs to make the necessary changes and unless supported by Welsh Government we would have to consider our financial expenditure very carefully as there is no budget for these works.

“We will be working with communities and elected members when the new guidance is issued and welcome feedback.”
