A BUCKLEY councillor has said "urgent action" is needed to rectify Wales' unsuccessful 20mph rollout.
The comments, from Cllr Carol Ellis, come after Transport Minister Ken Skates MS said guidance around the introduction of 20mph speed limits in built up areas will be corrected.
In a recent interview, the Minister said in many areas “routes that shouldn’t have been included, were” and that "there will be change" to allow "councils to revert back those routes that are not appropriate."
He added: "We’ve put our hands up to say; the guidance has to be corrected."
Cllr Ellis is one of many people who has been calling for a review of the speed limit rollout since September, with her efforts receiving the backing of North Wales MS Mark Isherwood.
Following Ken Skates' announcement, Cllr Ellis told the Leader: "I said in September they'd made a big mistake and asked them to review it.
"Isn't it a shame they didn't listen to people during the so-called consultation, before they implemented it across Wales?
"They didn't learn their lessons from Buckley and the other pilot schemes.
"All of the comments from people in the pilots were ignored.
"Residents have been very supportive of 20mph on estate roads and outside schools, because that's common sense.
"But the Welsh Government changed the criteria and the goalposts."
There have been efforts by Buckley councillors to have some of the town's roads restored to their original speed limits.
Cllr Ellis added: "Myself and the other county councillors are asking for the Mold Road to go back - most of that is 20mph now.
"Lots of people have complained about that and many don't adhere to it because it's very difficult to.
"I do welcome what Ken Skates has said, but it makes you wonder how many millions of pounds have been wasted on this.
"It has now been successful and needs urgent action."
Following Ms Skates' recent comments, a Welsh Government spokesman said: “The Cabinet Secretary has been clear that his immediate priority on 20mph is to listen.
“To support this, in the weeks ahead he will be engaging with elected representatives, businesses and communities across Wales.”
Mr Skates will address the issue in a statement on Tuesday (April 23).
