MOTORSPORT returns to Flintshire next month, after an event last year proved hugely popular.

Following on from the success of Rally Revival in October 2023, Mold gets set to be the focal point at the end of day one on Rally Revival Motor Club's new event, the E&H Memorial Rally.

Last year's event saw hundreds of people gather in the High Street, and the team behind it wanted to try something different for 2024, launching the E&H Memorial, in memory of Elvet and Hazel Pierce, formerly of Lixwm.

Elvet was a former history columnist in the Leader and long-time member of the team at Synthite Mold, and his wife Hazel a former house mother at various children's homes. The event will be raising funds for Wales Air Ambulance and Claire House Children's Hospice.

A round of the hotly contested Association of North Western Car Clubs and North Wales Rally Challenge championships, it boasts an entry list packed with quantity and quality. From classic favourites such as the MK1 and MK2 Escort, Peugeot 205s and Vauxhalls, through to four Subaru Imprezas. Last year's Rally Revival winning cars returns in the hands of Iwan Roberts Jr, partnered with last year's winning navigator Moi Williams.

Mold is the main focal point and with support from the Mold Town Council and Flintshire County Council, the High Street from the Cross (Chester Street) to the junction with King Street (just like on market day), will be closed to traffic between 5pm-10pm.

On Saturday, May 18, from 6.30pm, there will be a large start/finish arch, along with live commentary from 1996 British Rally Champion and S4C presenter Howard Davies, and several vehicles on display.

At 7pm organisers welcome competing crews into the town centre after they've completed their first competitive section, where they'll go under the arch whilst negotiating the comedic commentary of Howard and give an insight into how their day is going. Then there is the chance to meet the competitors and look over their vehicles.

From 9pm crews will then depart for the night leg of the event, the sting in the tail!

Local motor club Broughton-Bretton will also be on hand to explain how to get involved and show people around some of the cars on display.

Bryn Pierce, clerk of the course, said: "We can't thank the residents of the areas we're visiting, plus of course the councils of Mold, Flintshire and Denbighshire, enough for their support.

"It's been incredibly heartening to receive calls and messages from many people saying how much they're looking forward to it and hopefully it'll be the continuation of a long relationship with the area."
