WREXHAM AFC will be playing EFL League One football next season - and that is something that would have seemed near impossible just a few years ago.

The takeover of the club by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney just over three years ago has seen the club rise up from the wilderness of the National League.

Now, an EFL Trophy final and back-to-back promotions later, the Reds are set for life in the third tier during the 2024/25 season.

The latest success - and the second promotion - came following an emphatic 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday (April 13).

That means that the co-chairmen's ambitious goal of reaching the Premier League someday are still firmly within their sights too.

But, just how much have the Hollywood duo spent in their quest to take Wrexham all the way?

Well, when Rob and Ryan took over in February 2021, they initially invested a sum of £2m.

Along the way, the pair have boosted the club's worth up to around the £9m mark via further investment and deals they have struck up.

That was according to club director Shaun Harvey, who revealed just that figure during a SportNXT conference in Melbourne last month.

That has mainly come via a number of huge sponsorship deals with the likes of TikTok and United Airlines and of course the success of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

That Disney series has seen Wrexham's popularity rise to unprecedented levels, in turn boosting shirt sales and bringing new supporters in from the likes of the USA, Canada and Brazil.

The club's social media growth has also been astronomical between 2020 to 2024, seeing an increase from 152,000 followers to 3,981,747 across all platforms.

Ups and downs?

It's not all been so straightforward for Rob and Ryan however.

A March 2024 report showed that club had suffered a £5.113m loss.

But, it added that the club's turnover was £10.478m, up from £5.972m in 2022, with most of that increase coming from advertising, sponsorship and their epic FA Cup run.

It remains to be seen just how much money the club will earn after gaining promotion to EFL League One also.
