Wrexham pub holding charity dog walk in memory of regular

The Golden Lion in Coedpoeth is organising the event in memory of Phil Mitchell, aged 63, who sadly died in January after a short battle with asbestosis cancer of the stomach.

The event is taking place on Sunday, May 12 from midday until 4pm in aid of Nightingale House Hospice - where Phil spent his final days. Donations to the event can be made via https://bit.ly/3Jjj0pd.

Lee and Sian Jones, who run the Golden Lion, said: "Phil spent his last days in Nightingale House who went over and above to make sure Phil and his family was looked after.

"Phil was arguably the most popular figure in our community and would always light up a room whenever he entered. He would always have people laughing with his witty jokes and his cheeky smile.

"Phil was always involved in charity events here at the Golden Lion. He was a member of a charity band the Hope House Flowers, raising thousands for the charity."

Regarding the choice of event in his memory, they said: "His love for his Jack Russell Billy who would never leave his side is how a few of our local customers came up with the idea for this event and to raise money for a fantastic charity.

"Later in the year we will also be putting on a festival in honour of Phil calling it Laaaa Fest (those who know Phil will understand why it’s called that) where we hope to raise even more money for Nightingale House."

The dog walk will start and finish at the pub, and there are three different routes varying in length that people can do. 

There is a £5 entry fee which is payable on the day and includes doggy bag and refreshments.

There will also be live music and a fun dog show.
