A WREXHAM woman who was more than three times the drink-drive limit was caught by police after "swerving" in the road.

Abbi Wheeler, of Colliery Road, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

The 31-year-old admitted one offence of drink-driving.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court that at around 3am on March 23, police spotted the defendant driving a Peugeot motor vehicle in Chester Street, Wrexham.

She was "swerving" in  the road and when stopped, smelled of intoxicants.

In her evidential reading, it was revealed she had 108 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35.

Euros Jones, defending, told the court: "She pleads guilty at the earliest opportunity and has been petrified about today.

"She works at a local nightspot."

Mr Jones said on the night of the offence, mum-of-two Wheeler had consumed drinks after work - but she hadn't been the one pouring them.

"What she believed were singles were far stronger," Mr Jones continued.

"She thought she would be fine to drive home, but that obviously wasn't the case.

"Fortunately nothing happened other than her being stopped by the police."

He said the inevitable driving ban would have "a huge impact" on his client.

Deputy District Judge Paul Conlon told the defendant: "You have lost your good character through committing this offence.

The Leader:

"And I note the reading - you were over three times the limit.

"There was evidence that your driving was less than that which a competent driver would exhibit."

The Judge handed down a £300 fine and ordered the defendant to pay a £120 victim surcharge, a well as £85 costs.

She was banned from driving for 24 months.
