A DEVASTATED family from Buckley who lost their home due to a tumble dryer fire are feeling overwhelmed by the generous public support.

Tanya and Paul Rooke from Buckley in Flintshire suffered a terrifying ordeal on Sunday, March 3 when their family home went up in flames.

Emergency services attended the property to tackle a blaze which was caused by a tumble dryer they checked regularly.

After losing everything, the couple and their two boys are heartbroken by the damage.

In an attempt to support them, a family friend Dave Squires appealed to Buckley residents to donate whatever they can. See here.

Despite having insurance, the extent of the fire damage means very little can be saved.

In just one week, a fantastic total of £5,336 has been raised to buy items such as clothes and gadgets.

Currently residing with Tanya's dad on the same estate, she said they've been given a time-frame of between 9 and 12 months for their home to be repaired.

Tanya said: "We're still feeling lost and trying to process it all.

"I don't feel like I've had time to process exactly what's happened as since the Monday after the fire, it's been non-stop with phone calls, different teams within the insurance claims department visiting the house to assess the damage.

"The restoration team visited Monday 11th March and one of the men said, in his words, "I've been doing this job for 20 years and I've never seen one this bad before caused by a tumble dryer".

"They've had to write everything off, and the house has to go back to brick due to the damage caused."

Tanya said the aim of sharing their story is to raise awareness alongside North Wales Fire Service who issued crucial safety advice to the public.

The advice follows a rise in fires caused by tumble dryers across North Wales.

Tanya continues: "I want to thank everyone who has supported us, donated to the 'go fund me' page and sent cash donations.
