A man has been fined for his drunken, argumentative behaviour towards police who came to check on his welfare.

Steven Lowrie, of Deva Avenue in Holywell, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 42-year-old admitted one offence of being drunk and disorderly and one of possessing cannabis.

Prosecutor Hannah Williams told the court that at around 6pm on February 13, North Wales Police received multiple calls regarding an 'intoxicated male' in Holywell.

When officers arrived at Hillside Court, they found a "heavily intoxicated" Lowrie, who was unsteady on his feet.

He became increasingly aggressive and argumentative, refusing to give his details to the police.

Eventually he was arrested and taken to custody.

When searched, a small quantity of cannabis was found to be in his possession.

Ms Williams told the court Lowrie had 12 previous convictions for 23 offences - some of which were relevant.

They included drunk and disorderly offences in 2018, 2021 and 2022.

The Leader:

Ceri Lewis said: "Mr Lowrie wishes to apologise to all parties concerned, particularly the officers who came across him.

"They were there to check on his welfare but out of frustration he became argumentative."

Ms Lewis said on the day of the offence, her client had been walking home after going to see his girlfriend when he fell and injured himself.

"He couldn't remember how drunk he was until he was shown footage today," she added.

Deputy District Judge Paul Conlon handed the defendant an £80 fine for each of the two offences, as well as ordering him to pay a £64 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
