SHOPPERS have been reacting to the announcement that a Body Shop site in Flintshire is set to close.

The major chain has today (February 29) confirmed that it will soon close 75 of its UK branches.

The high street skincare and cosmetics chain tumbled into administration earlier this month.

Administrators from FRP Advisory said the latest closures will take place over the next four to six weeks as part of a heavy restructuring aimed at preserving the brand.

That also means that around 489 jobs will go over the next four to six weeks.

One of the shops set to close - and the only one announced for north Wales so far - is the Body Shop located at Broughton Shopping Park.

Following the latest announcement, the Leader asked shoppers what they thought of it.

Many of them were unaware that it was set to go.

Nicole Hughes, who is from Broughton, said: “I’d heard that it (Body Shop) was being threatened by closure but didn’t know it had been announced now.

“It’ll be a shame to see it go, but hopefully something good can come and replace it.”

Simon Miller, from Deeside, added: “Looking at it right now, there doesn’t seem to be many people in there, so maybe it isn’t such a surprise. But, it is always sad to see a business folding.”

Alan Roberts, from Wrexham, was out shopping with family for the day. He said: “There seems to be a lot of big businesses closing down at the moment, we’ve lost Asda (Living) and Wilko recently in our town.

“I’d say the internet has had a big effect on things as people don’t go out shopping as much as they used to any more.”

Steven Williams told us: “It’s sad for all the people who will be losing their jobs and anyone who loves to shop there.”

Broughton South Councillor Chrissy Gee said: "We are lucky to have such a vibrant thriving shopping park in Broughton and It’s a shame we are losing the Body Shop from Broughton Park.

"However, luxury items are the first to go from residents shopping list in a cost of living crisis."

The Body Shop sites at the nearby Cheshire Oaks Outlet and further along the coast in Llandudno will remain open for the time being at least.
