WREXHAM AFC's Executive Director is set to appear on our TV screens in an upcoming comedy series on BBC.

Filming for 'Daddy Issues' got underway in Stockport in December 2023.

Comedian and writer Danielle Ward has written the six-part series which has Lynn Roberts as producer, while Phil Gilbert is executive producer for Fudge Park Productions (the team behind The Inbetweeners and White Gold).

Also executive producing are Aimee Lou Wood, David Morrissey, Ward and Damon Beesley who also directs, alongside Caterine Morshead.

Daddy Issues is a series about two funny, deeply flawed characters who just happen to be father and daughter.

Joining the previously announced lead actors Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey are David Fynn (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Sharon Rooney (Barbie), Sarah Hadland (Miranda), Taj Atwal (Hullraisers), Arian Nik (Count Abdulla), Tom Stourton (Stath Lets Flats), Susan Lynch (Sex Education), Susannah Fielding (This Time with Alan Partridge), Lauren O'Rourke (Henpocalypse), Cyril Nri (Death in Paradise), Cora Kirk (Grantchester), Perry Fitzgerald (Line of Duty), Claire Keelan (The Trip), Damien Molony (Brassic), Sherrie Hewson (Benidorm) and David Reed (Ghosts).

Also joining the cast, according to the BBC, is Wrexham AFC's Executive Director Humphrey Ker.

TOP STORIES

Ker has regularly appeared in the hugely-popular Welcome to Wrexham documentary series.

But, the 41-year-old has also previously appeared in several other shows and sketches including; 'Comedy Shuffle' and 'Mythic Quest'.

He has also appeared in an episode of 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia', as well as the likes of 'Have I Got News For You' and '8 Out of 10 Cats' down the years.

His love of TV and football arguably brought about the Hollywood takeover of Wrexham AFC.

That is because, while filming the opening season of Mythic Quest, Ker introduced his passion for football to the show's Executive Producer, Rob McElhenney.

Some months later Rob and friend and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds became co-chairmen of the Reds and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, Ker's latest TV role will see him star in 'Daddy Issues'.

The BBC's synopsis for the series is as follows; "When hedonistic 24 year old Gemma discovers she’s pregnant after a random hook-up, she has no choice but to turn to her hapless father Malcolm for support.

"Recently divorced from Gemma’s mother (who made off with their joint savings to ‘Eat Pray Love’ her way around the world), Malcolm is unable to load a washing machine, boil an egg or microwave rice without it exploding.

"Up until now, he’s been living in squalor with fellow divorcee Derek but when Gemma’s own flatmate decides to move out, the combination of financial desperation and a desire to not be totally alone makes her resort to the unthinkable: she asks her dad to move in with her. Because what’s the worst that could happen…?"

From dating disasters and failed romances through to toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, plus a dangerously sociopathic antenatal teacher, Daddy Issues is an affectionate heart-warming story between father and daughter and the reality of facing up to parenthood - at any stage of life.

Further information for Daddy Issues will be announced in due course.
