RESIDENTS have been urged to take precautions to deter criminals following a burglary in Shotton.
PCSO Aled Hughes of the North Flintshire policing team called for information following the burglary in Central Drive, Shotton on the evening of Saturday, February 24.
He added: "If you have seen anything suspicious, please contact North Wales Police quoting Event Number Q027087."
PCSO Owen Prentice, of the We Don't Buy Crime team, added: "Due to a recent burglary in the Shotton area, please consider following the simple crime prevention advice which will reduce the chances of you becoming a victim of a similar incident.
"Physically check that all doors and windows are closed and locked when leaving the house unoccupied.
"Consider purchasing an interactive doorbell which records images and audio.
"[And] consider purchasing CCTV and security lighting for the property which covers all entry and exit points.
"Ensure that all ladders, garden tools and DIY equipment are stored securely in either a locked garage or garden shed.
"Consider purchasing and marking valuables with SmartWater.
"SmartWater is a forensic marking kit which works in the same way as DNA.
"Each bottle of SmartWater is made up of a unique chemical code which is then registered to the property and the owner/occupant.
"North Wales Police currently has a discount code for all North Wales residents which takes the cost from £59.50 down to £25.
"One bottle of SmartWater can mark up to 80 items - With this discount code applied, this works out at 32p to mark an item.
"If you would like to have access to the SmartWater discount code simply email wedontbuycrime@northwales.police.uk with your names, address and that you are requesting the discount code for SmartWater.
"You will then get a reply with a step by step guide on how to purchase the SmartWater with the discount code along with further information on protecting your property/belongings."
