WREXHAM'S oldest barbershop based in the city centre is now unrecognisable following a transformation project.
Henry's Gent's Hairdressers, previously called Man's World, has been at its address on Charles Street since 1968.
The business was taken over by current owner Saira Griffiths-Hughes in April 2023 following the retirement of her employer Henry Kupski - who had owned the shop for nearly 30 years.
After being a barber for 20-years and intending to spend the next 20-years in the industry, Saira decided it was time to restyle the Wrexham business - believed to be oldest barbers in Wrexham - for her regulars and to attract new customers through the door.
She said: "The restyle has taken 11 months. It was my blank canvas as it had been kept the same for 20 years.
"We are a place full of characters and banter with welcoming staff who really are the backbone to the place. I wanted to give the shop a look to match its personality and keep it classic to pair with its longevity.
"I needed to give our customers (and staff) somewhere with a nice vibe, to sit, relax and take in the atmosphere when they come and wait for their haircut! We want to give our customers a great experience that will keep them returning to us.
"It’s also important for me to let the people of Wrexham know that we are still going strong. I kept the name of Henry’s because it’s a well known place and I just wanted to build on an what was there to propel it into my future."
During the autumn last year, Saira was approached by the Wrexham Council's Business & Investment team who told her to apply for the Transforming Towns Property Development Grant. Luckily, she applied and was granted.
Saira committed to using her extra bank holidays and as much free time as possible to repaint and redesign the building.
With help from family, friends, wife and children, and local traders, it truly was a team effort - in return for a few free haircuts!
"To finally get the shop front to match its character and fit in with Charles Street is fantastic", Saira continues.

Saira also has the devoted support of her five staff members, including her assistant manager Sherren Jones who has worked at the premises for 19 years.
Saira said: "She is a big part of our shop and knows all the regulars. Again, a part of our original heritage."
Now, the team finally have the barbers of their dreams and are proud to welcome customers, old and new, to enjoy their experience.
