AN APPEAL for witnesses has been launched after off-road motorbikes and quad bikes were driven along a protected Flintshire site.

North Wales Police are investigating the incidents which took place at Talacre beach, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

According to National Resources Wales, SSSI's are the most important sites for Wales’ natural heritage.

They are highly protected to safeguard the range, quality and variety of habitats, species and geological features in all parts of Wales.

Talacre beach is home to a number of rare spieces of plants and animals including the Natterjack Toad.

Police officers say that the site has recently been used by people riding motorbikes and quad bikes along the sand dunes.
