THE Midland has confirmed changes have been made after being handed a 1-star food hygiene rating last month.
The former Wetherspoons on Wrexham's High Street opened as 'The Midland' early in December following the closure of the North and South Wales Bank.
The new sports bar proved a hit with locals, as crowds packed in during the run-up to Christmas.
However, the establishment was hit with a 1-star rating following a visit from the Environmental Health Officer on December 17.
The owners state they acknowledge the disappointment in the rating, but add that it was down to paperwork issues rather than any food quality or uncleanliness.
A statement from the Midland said: "We want to take a moment to address a recent development that has come to our attention and reassure you about the steps we are taking to ensure the highest standards at The Midland.
"First and foremost, we want to emphasise that this rating is in no way reflective of the cleanliness or quality of our food. Our dedicated team has always strived to maintain the highest standards in these areas, and we stand by the quality of the dining experience we provide.
"The cause of the 1-star rating was primarily due to a lapse in due diligence related to essential paperwork, specifically the allergen documentation, which was not available during the EHO inspection. Unfortunately, this was an oversight by our former kitchen manager, who, despite being experienced, did not fulfil their duties adequately in this aspect.
"Since becoming aware of this issue, we have taken swift action. In January 2024, we welcomed a new head chef who has implemented a comprehensive series of paperwork changes to ensure compliance with all regulations. We are currently awaiting a re-inspection, and we are confident that our establishment will receive a 5-star rating as a result of these improvements.

"We want to assure our valued patrons that the 1-star rating is a singular incident related to paperwork and not a reflection of the overall competence of our kitchen staff or the quality of our food.
"We acknowledge the disappointment this may cause, but we kindly ask for your understanding and support during this period. In the meantime, we are excited to announce the launch of a brand new 100% fresh food menu designed by our new head chef.
"We are committed to becoming the leading food establishment in Wrexham, and we invite you to watch this space for exciting developments and culinary experiences. We appreciate your understanding and continued patronage.
"Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any concerns or questions. We look forward to showcasing our commitment to excellence during the upcoming re-inspection. Thank you for your continued support."
