A CLOSURE of the A483 has sparked "traffic chaos" in Llangollen and surrounding areas this evening (January 23).
The carriageway was closed in both directions between Ruabon and Gledrid from 4pm and 7pm.
Traffic was diverted via the A539 and A5 in Llangollen and B5070. This is due to the B5605 Newbridge Road landslip.
It has sparked heavy congestion in and around Llangollen - with Traffic Wales warning of lengthy delays.
Llangollen residents have taken to social media this evening to describe the situation as "chaos". Motorists said it was taking over an hour to get from Trevor to Llangollen - which is a two-mile journey.
One person said: "Massive roadblock and queue over Llangollen Bridge and between Ruabon to Llangollen road due to Fron viaduct closure. Avoid if you can as all the high sided vehicles are stuck in Llangollen trying to get back onto the A5.
"It’s chaos in Llangollen."
There are reports that railings have been knocked down by larger vehicles attempting to make turns.
Another added: "If you’re thinking of going out in the car don’t bother. Town is gridlocked. Lorries struggling to turn the corners and the railings are down."
Traffic Wales has said the A483 has now reopened, but warned it will take "some time" for the delays to clear from the diversion route.
