A WREXHAM club says it is "extremely exciting" to see work get underway on its new community hub and cricket pavilion.
Gwersyllt Park Cricket Club received funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to start an exciting new chapter in the history of the club.
The club announced its plans to build a new pavilion back in October 2022.
After awaiting planning permission and organising multiple fundraising events, the time has finally come to start the project.
After an appeal for grants, donations and sponsors, the Wrexham club received an incredible £500,000 from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.
The funding is being used to accomplish the new multi-functional pavilion, as well as providing inclusive and safe cricket facilities, growing the game and physical activity and having a visible impact in the community.
Mark Byrne, club fundraiser, said: "The commencement of the building of our new community hub and cricket pavilion marks a step-change in our support to the local community.
"This is thanks to our strategic partners UK SPF, the ECB, Wrexham County Borough Council and Cricket Wales, who have been huge supporters of this project since its inception.
"Whilst there is still a long way to go until completion in September 2024, it is still extremely exciting to see early progress.

"We really want this facility to support the health and wellbeing of local residents through access to digital and numeracy courses, physical activity classes; real Levelling Up of our local area and the people who will use the facility.
"We will also be enhancing the cricket offering with more access to girls and ladies teams, as well as increasing the offering to juniors in the form of All Stars and Dynamos. More to follow in due course on this front!"
The club hopes the pavilion will be complete by the end of this year's cricket season.
