A GYM catered towards people with disabilities is hosting free opening days this weekend.

Fortitude Fortis, based at Immerse Fitness in Queensferry, provides physical training for anyone, especially those who may face barriers to exercising.

It caters for clients ranging from children to septuagenarians, those in wheelchairs, with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, Down's Syndrome and with mental health issues.

It is the brainchild of Kat Jones, who already runs a successful women-only gym in Buckley. She has been left disabled after being diagnosed with Central Pain Syndrome.

Alongside her colleague Sammy Hann, the pair are helping clubs including the North Wales Crusaders wheelchair rugby league team and charities, such as Outside Lives.

Referrals have so far come from word of mouth, and soon the pair hope to take on GP and social services referrals. Kat hopes that physiotherapists and chiropractors will offer treatments from two rooms at Immerse, adding to the complement of services on offer.

"I want to educate people not to give up on themselves," Kat said. "The benefits of exercise are well known and it can help people so much. We want to make exercise accessible for everyone in a supportive, normalised environment, and remove any stigma.

"It’s about providing a safe space that's accessible to all."

This Saturday and Sunday, Fortitude, which is now a registered charity, is inviting people to attend free open days.

The event will run between 10am and 2pm and will see seven free classes held each day. Pre-booking is essential and spaces are limited.

There will be over 12 instructors to ask as many questions you may have about membership options, classes, fitness, 1-2-1 sessions, adapted sessions , the accessibility and much more.
