A FLINTSHIRE pub has purchased a defibrillator after a customer sadly lost their life several years ago.

After nearly two-years of raising funds The Running Hare Restaurant and Pub, situated at St David's Park, Hawarden, has successfully purchased a defibrillator.

The pub's management team is thrilled with the life-saving addition that will make staff and customers in the community feel safer.

General manager of the Running Hare Louise Wildling said: "A few years ago a guest here sadly lost her life. This kick started us to start our journey with trying to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator.

"It hasn’t been an easy process getting one, so when we saw a charity online called The Oliver King Foundation we got in touch.

"Mark the founder of The Oliver King Foundation sadly lost his son Oliver at the age of 12 to sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.

"This started Mark on his journey to try and get as many defibrillators in as many places as he could. He has now successfully placed nearly 6,000 defibrillators in public places across the UK.

"We hope that it never has to be used but our team has been trained in case it does. We are so proud to be a part of 'Oliver’s Army'.

"Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey and helped us raise the funds because without our guests this wouldn’t have been possible."

Founded by Mark King and based in Liverpool, the Oliver King Foundation installs defibrillators in schools and public buildings, as well as asking for ECG screenings for over 12s and raising crucial awareness.

The defibrillator at the Running Hare Pub will not only benefit the establishment but will also make the community as a whole feel safer knowing there is one nearby to hand.

It is a fantastic achievement for all who have put the effort into the fundraising.
