STAFF, volunteers, and trustees at a Wrexham hospice, were delighted to get the first glimpse of their new facility.

The handover was made to Nightingale House from Read Construction, who, along with TACP and many other sub-contractors, have been working tirelessly to complete the building work since April 2023. The hospice has been busy over Christmas preparing to welcome patients to the Inpatient Unit in the new year.

Senior nurse Julie Lloyd said: "It's like being a kid at Christmas. We've all been waiting so long to see the new Inpatient Unit. It looks absolutely fabulous! Knowing we are going to care for patients in this environment, I am so proud to work here."

Health care support worker, Michelle Constantine added: "Everyone is quite emotional about the new Inpatient Unit. It looks even better than we ever imagined. Many patients and their families comment on how we provide a high standard of care and attention, and now we have the environment and facilities to match."

Read Construction has worked with Nightingale House Hospice across all four phases of their modernisation plan. Chair of the Board of Trustees at Nightingale House, Eluned Griffiths, said: "The Board of Trustees are delighted with the successful completion of Nightingale House's new Inpatient Unit, accomplished within the projected timeframe and budget.

Read Construction contracts manager, Damian Bryan, said: "Working with Nightingale House Hospice on their modernisation programme over the past few years has been fantastic. We are really pleased we could be part of such an important project, creating a modern, welcoming, first-class environment for the local community to be cared for in their time of need.

"When we were asked if we would be able to support sorting the nurse's facilities too, we were more than happy to help. Our subcontractors were also eager to get involved. We want to thank our subcontractors who donated their time, expertise, and resources to make this happen."

Donations from the public have helped Nightingale House Hospice fund the modernisation of their Inpatient Unit. Laura Hughes, ward manager, added: "We are all in awe of how the public continues to support our appeal and have raised an incredible amount of money so far, but it just keeps going up, and the funds are still very much needed to complete the finishing touches. The new facilities will allow us to care for patients long into the future."

The first patients were welcomed into the new Inpatient Unit at Nightingale House Hospice on January 3, 2024.
