PLANS to revitalise a Flintshire pub have been abandoned by Heineken's pub arm.
The Red Lion, in Llanasa, near Holywell, is being placed up for sale by Star Pubs & Bars - the pub arms of the Dutch lager giant.
The company had planned to refurbish and reopen the pub - which has been closed since 2019. An investment plan detailed an extensive refurbishment, including a new dining area, bar, toilets and kitchen.
There were also plans to redecorate the outside of the pub, as well as the installation of a new beer garden.
But Star Pubs & Bars has now abandoned the plans and is placing the pub up for sale - saying the decision was made after it "revisited" the costs required to reopen it.

A spokesperson for Star Pubs & Bars says: “Like all pub companies we regularly review our estate to ensure we have the right pubs in the right locations. We have now earmarked The Red Lion for sale as part of this process.
"The decision was regrettably made having revisited the costs required to reopen The Red Lion as a leased and tenanted pub. Unfortunately, these now make it no longer viable for our model.
"It is in a great location and has real potential for the right owner/operator. Anyone interested should contact the agents, Sidney Phillips on 01981 250333."
In February last year, a petition was launched calling for The Red Lion to be reopened by Star Pubs & Bars. It received over 500 signatures.
It states: "The Red Lion has been the heart of the village and a place for both the local community and visitors to enjoy. A beautiful, listed building, “The Red”, as it’s affectionately known, used to be lively and popular with a wide reputation for a warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere as well as great food and drink."
