THIS was the moment a dangerous drink-driver was stopped and arrested after leading police on a pursuit through a busy city centre.
Nicholas Suckley, of Y Gamer in Glyn Ceiriog, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Thursday morning for offences including drink-driving, dangerous driving and driving without an insurance or licence.
The court heard how in the early hours of December 10, the 29-year-old drove his grandad's pickup truck around Wrexham City Centre whilst three times the drink-drive limit.
His prolonged piece of bad driving lasted around two hours and saw him driving by numerous festive revellers - even mounting the pavement and straddling the centre white line at times.
The incident came to an end when he was stopped before joining a roundabout.
In footage played to the court, provided to the Leader by the Crown Prosecution Service following the hearing, his vehicle could be seen lurching forward and striking a police car as officers move in to arrest him.
The nature of his erratic driving on the night was also captured by CCTV operators.
Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones told the defendant a suspended sentence would not be sufficient punishment for his "highly prolonged" episode of dangerous driving.
He jailed Suckley for 12 months and banned him from driving for five years (with an additional six months ban to take account of the custodial element of his sentence before release on licence.)
