SEARCH and rescue volunteers helped a lost walker in their last job of 2023.
North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) confirmed on New Year's Day that its last callout of the previous year involved a person who was lost on the forest tracks behind Moel Famau.
A spokesman explained: "The team were put to standby, but the person had a good phone signal, so we were able to use our Phone Find technology to confirm their location.
"Once we knew their location, we were able to direct them back to the car park, and when confirmed that they were back to the safety of their car, the team were stood down."
NEWSAR is a non profit organisation which relies solely on donations made by members of the public.
Its team of volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - responding to those in need throughout Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham and parts of Conwy and Powys.
In total, the team dealt with 73 call-outs throughout the region in 2023.
Of those, 51 per cent of callouts happened midweek, with the remainder happening over the weekend
A total of 3,396 hours assisting people in need were logged and the total number of hours team members spent training and fundraising in 2023 came to 2,113.
