CHRISTMAS spirit was brought to some of Wrexham's most vulnerable people on Boxing Day thanks to a team of kind-hearted volunteers.

The Outreach team has been looking after the homeless within the community for the last eight years or so.

From handing out free food to arranging haircuts, the team carry out a number of sessions throughout the year to support the homeless.

And part of the great work that they do this time of year is to set up on Queen's Square in Wrexham for a few hours every Boxing Day.

Joining them annually is the husband and wife team of Matt and Sian Pyne, from Flint, who again shared some Christmas cheer this week.

Matt said: "Brilliant, lot of good spirits and a lot of people happy we came out. One of the guys was given a Christmas card by the team, and he said it was the only one received this year so it absolutely made his day!"

Whilst in Wrexham, the team handed out various supplies such as socks and underwear and plenty of food to ensure that some of the most vulnerable people in the community are not forgotten about.

Matt says that, this year, the team handed out around 30 rucksacks, as well as 60 selection boxes which have kindly been donated throughout the year.

And the Lyon's Burger Bar team (based in Flint) was also again on hand to provide some of their tasty treats.

A statement from the Wrexham Outreach team after Boxing Day read: "Wow fair play what a good couple of hours on Queen's Square today we handed out all the rucksacks, loads of selection boxes and loads of other goodies. Lots of happy people and loads of smiles.

"It is really amazing to be part of such an amazing team. It's days like this that make it all worthwhile.

"We had a couple of our good friends who support us through the year came along with walk in donations as well.

"That feeling that you have been forgotten and that feeling that nobody cares - well that feeling was not felt today - really humbled."
