HEAVY RAIN, strong gusts of wind and even gales are being predicted for north Wales as 2023 comes to an end this weekend.

Storm Gerrit's impact was felt throughout the region earlier this week via 80mph winds, powercuts and train cancellations.

Flood alerts have also been in place for communities close to the River Dee area.

And the Met Office is predicting the poor weather to continue on into the weekend as we bid farewell to 2023 and welcome in the new year.

According to their forecast, tonight (December 29), we can expect to see 'heavy showers continuing through the evening' before 'gradually dying away through the night'.

The prediction adds: "Some clear spells and turning chilly under the lighter winds, before more cloud and rain arrives by dawn. Minimum temperature 4 °C."

Tomorrow's (Saturday, December 30) forecast reads: "Turning unsettled with cloud and outbreaks of rain pushing in from the west. Rain turning heavy at times, especially later with strong gusty winds and coastal gales. Maximum temperature 12 °C."

The Met Office's outlook for Sunday (New Year's Eve) to Tuesday (January 2) reads: "Often cloudy on Sunday with some blustery showers in the west. Largely fine on New Year's Day with a few showers. Cloudier on Tuesday with rain possible in the south."

The first week in January is then likely to bring with it 'below average temperatures across northern areas, with some hard night time frosts'.
