WREXHAM'S new temporary kop stand was in use for the first time today during the Welsh derby at the STōK Cae Ras.

Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club in 2021, plans about extending the capacity at the Racecourse have swirled.

Then came the planning application for the new 5,500 seater Kop stand, which was later accepted, and it looked set to be open for the start of the 2024/25 season.

However, due to a number of planning snags, work has been delayed on the new stand, with no knowledge of when things can start.

As a result, the club has installed a temporary kop stand in an attempt to boost the crowds at the STōK Cae Ras.

It was opened (at 80% capacity) for the first time today as the Reds faced off against Newport County, with a crowd of 12,095 in attendance.

Goals from James Jones and Elliot Lee secured the three points for Phil Parkinson's men in a 2-0 win.

The new stand was well received amongst Wrexham fans, who praised the club for going ahead with the idea.

Steve Jones said: "It's great isn't it really.

"Tickets have been so hard to come by, so to add another 2,000 means more people get to come to games and the Racecourse will be an even tougher place to come.

"To get over 12,000 in for the first time in years will be great and there's going to be some atmosphere against Newport today!"

James Davies added: "Fair play to the club for doing it really, after the new stand had a delay, it could've been easy to do nothing.

"But to have more than 12,000 here every home game, it's going to create some noise and teams won't enjoy coming here.

"It's just made me more excited to get the proper Kop stand in, because that's going to be unreal."
