A WREXHAM hospital has marked an anniversary, with the help of some Wrexham AFC stars.

Spire Yale Hospital first opened on October 31, 1988 and 35 years later have celebrated the milestone with a ceremonial tree planting, to continue to grow roots within the community.

The event was attended by Wrexham AFC players Steven Fletcher and Anthony Forde, along with hospital colleagues and patients.

Celebrations also included long service awards for colleagues who have worked at the hospital since its opening.

For the past 35 years, Spire Yale Hospital has provided Health Inspectorate Wales compliant treatment to the community. Over the years the hospital has gone from strength-to-strength and in March 2023 opened a new outpatient and diagnostic centre, Chesney Court, enabling Spire Yale Hospital to increase the number of patients that can treated and expand the range of patient services available.

On November 22, 1988, the first operation, a knee replacement, went ahead. Since then, Spire Yale Hospital has completed more than 73,000 surgeries ranging from hip and knee replacements to cataract and general surgery. Urology and pain management are amongst other specialities, with the hospital facilities including state-of-the-art MRI, x-ray and ultrasound technology, allowing staff to provide rapid access to diagnostic tests.

The hospital was proud to welcome the Wrexham AFC players, as they share their passion for working alongside and for the community.

Angie Wallace, hospital director at Spire Yale Hospital, said: "I am proud of the range of services that we provide that make positive difference to people's lives through outstanding personalised care and the excellent team of colleagues and consultants who provide these services to our patients, every day.
