THE personal treasures of everyday people are the focus of a project on display in Wrexham.

Ty Pawb's Makers Space is host to the Wrexham Treasures exhibition, an idea brought to life by artist and photographer Rona Campbell.

Former opera singer Rona would go 'treasure' hunting with her camera, and wanted to cover Wrexham.

She took her idea to the Arts Council for Wales, and with the help of a funding grant, created the Wrexham Treasures project.

Treasure could be anything, and will be different from person to person. Current items include a 40-year-old bottle of unopened cordial, a poster from a garage about closure on the day of Diana Princess of Wales' funeral and a pair of sparkling shoes from 1980's New York.

Her own work on show at the creative space on Market Street, includes a series of photos featuring brickwork inside a tunnel at Erddig, that resemble paintings.

Rona, 78, said: "My camera started it all. People of Wrexham are having a chance to tell the stories behind their precious treasures.

"I am fascinated by the psychology of memories."

The items on display, many with a story to tell, have been captivating visitors, with one stating in a book of comments that "this is just what Wrexham needs".

More and more items are arriving all the time, with Rona keen to include as many as possible during the project's run until the end of January 2024.

If you would like to have a 'treasure' included, please email Rona at ronacampbell73@gmail.com or pop along to Ty Pawb on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
