A TOWN'S defibrillator champion spoke of his delight as another of the lifesaving devices was installed.

The sentiment was expressed by Buckley Councillor David Ellis, who has worked for several years to have the items put in place at numerous sites across the community.

Cllr Ellis said: "We're getting excellent defibrillator coverage in Buckley and we've had another one go in now at Bistre Church Hall.

"I'd like to thank Blackwell Memorials, based at Chester and Llong, for providing a plaque - because this defibrillator is in memory of Rob Dawson.

"The money was raised by family and friends, and Bistre Church."

Cllr Ellis said there are now public access defibrillators at sites across the town, including: Forest Walk, Lane End Club, Buckley Methodist Church, Buckley Fire Station, Jubilee Court Community Centre, Buckley Town Council, Nant Mawr Community Centre, Marleyfield Care Home, Hawkesbury Community Centre, Alltami, Westwood CP School, Buckley Recycling Centre, Lester's Farm Shop, St Matthew's Park and more.

"These things are worth their weight in gold.

"A friend of mine passed away not long ago. He went into cardiac arrest and never came out of it.

"If a defibrillator had been there, it might have helped - it might have even saved his life.

"And that is the reason I do it.

"All of the defibrillators I'm involved with go on the national defibrillator network."

He said that every defibrillator has a guardian who checks regularly that their device is in good working order.

"A lot of the time I'll have a ride around and make sure everything is ok with them," he added.
