AN INFAMOUS feud between caterpillars continued today (December 3), and this time it was on the STok Cae Ras pitch.

Wrexham AFC ran out 3-0 winners over Yeovil Town to set up a mouth-watering tie away to rivals Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fourth round.

And, in what is the latest instalment of an ongoing cake rivalry, Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar was there to support Yeovil Town FC during the match at Wrexham.

Cuthbert made a surprise guest appearance at the match, cheering on Yeovil from the side-lines with plenty of comical chants, on the day that Aldi also appeared as official shirt sponsor of The Glovers for the fixture, in a one-off cup match partnership.

Cuthbert’s on-pitch appearance added another layer of tension and excitement to the cup tie, given Wrexham’s recent partnership announcement with M&S - who have their own caterpillar, Colin.

The partnership has caused quite the commotion on social media, with Aldi’s Twitter post announcing the appearance gaining 500 likes in the first hour of it being live.

The situation has had shoppers in stitches, with one Twitter user saying ‘Absolute legends- #teamcuthbert’ while another exclaimed ‘it’s the caterpillar derby!’.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Cuthbert is a huge football fan, and given the opponents, we put the feelers out to become Yeovil’s official mascot for this cup tie, and the rest is history.

"Cuthbert loved being part of the action and was thrilled to cheer on The Glovers from the sidelines”.

But the real winners on the day were Wrexham who advanced to the third round of the FA Cup for a second year running.
