The pub restaurant has recently reopened its doors after addressing the "elephant in the room" surrounding a food hygiene rating issued in September. So we put it to the test.
Having reopened last week after undergoing a major revamp - my mother and I booked in for a meal on Sunday evening.
It had been a year or so since I'd last been in the Fat Boar, and it's safe to say the place is definitely looking very spruced up. We could smell the fresh paint as soon as we walked in.
It was clear that, as the Fat Boar's director had pledged, the place has undergone a transformation in the month it has been closed.
Shown to our table by very courteous staff members, we ordered a starter of vegetable spring rolls with a sweet chilli dip. They were a perfect size for a starter and were quickly polished off. There was a nice kick to the sauce and in all - it was a very good start.
For mains, I went for the double cheeseburger (£16), which looked excellent.
Served on a fresh bun, and accompanied by some skin-on fries - it was presented nicely.
The burger was epic - tender meat, juicy and the perfect texture. The fries were perfectly seasoned with just enough salt to add flavour but not so overpowering that they leave you dry.
Mum went for the fish and chips. The batter was light and crisp and the fish was perfectly flaky. And they even accommodated her wish for garden peas, instead of mushy. The chips, were the highlight, with mum declaring them the "nicest I've ever had". Some compliment!
Such was the portion size, even as a chocoholic I couldn't squeeze in the browny which had caught my eye on the menu.
In terms of quality of a meal - it was excellent. I can see how much work they have put in at The Fat Boar and it's certainly paid off.
It's back to its best and I would highly recommend.
