A FLINTSHIRE pub is once again putting on a free Christmas dinners for pensioners to help combat loneliness.

The Red Lion Penyffordd is once more working in conjunction with the Penyffordd Area Community Association (PACA) this December to host the event.

It will run on Saturday (December 9) from 1pm and spaces are limited - with must bookings on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

Due to the restricted numbers the pub will be asking for the full address and postcode of those wishing to book to ensure that pensioners from Penyffordd are treated as priority - this means that if you are not from the village, you will not be permitted to attend this event.

PACA and the Red Lion will cover the cost of a two-course festive meal and entertainment.

To book your place at the Penyffordd Pensioners Christmas Lunch please contact Phoebe Woodward at the Red Lion on 01244 540682 or drop the Red Lion Penyffordd Facebook page a message, or pop in to see her in person.

Steve Saxon, operations director of Gastro Taverns Ltd which runs the pub, said: "PACA and the Red Lion Penyffordd came together in December 2020 to provide the pensioners of Penyffordd with a free Christmas lunch. It came as the Covid restrictions slowly relaxed as a way to bring the aged community together following a year of turmoil and uncertainty and because the elderly community were one of the hardest hit demographics during the Covid-19 era.

MORE NEWS:

"PACA and the Red Lion fought the authorities to ensure that the Penyffordd pensioners could come out of their homes, some for the first time in months, to enjoy a safe and festive social environment at no cost to them. Since 2020 PACA and the Red Lion have continued their charitable relationship by making the Penyffordd Pensioners Christmas Lunch event an annual tradition, a tradition that many pensioners look forward to each year."

PACA, which Steve is also a member of, has been established for over a decade, providing the Penyffordd community with a steady flow of events and facilities that local residents have asked for where other bodies could not or would not facilitate.

Annual events such as the Christmas Eve Carol Service and All Day Breakfast generate donations that are put back into the community. Working alongside the Red Lion, they have built a wonderful working, charitable relationship that has benefited hundreds of residents and families locally.
