THE FLINTSHIRE Christmas Float is set to visit residents this year with its Rotary Club helpers who are hard at work.

The nights are drawing in and already the hillsides of Flintshire are resounding to the sounds of Santa’s little helpers who can be heard, hard at work.

Santa's Sleigh will be going around Flint, Holywell, Halkyn Mountain and the surrounding villages.

While Santa's elves are hard at work, it is Rhosesmor motor engineer John Williams and his team who are spending many hours working on the necessary maintenance and upgrade works of the Club's 4x4.

Although John and his team give their time entirely free, the material costs required can be significant and each year the club finds it increasingly difficult to raise the necessary funds.

David Pearse, the club's Press Officer, said: "Last year, without the magnificent support of local businesses, the float was in danger of being unable to continue a tradition that goes back over fifty years.

"Unfortunately in recent years, collections from the public have however fallen significantly."

Last year, a special plea went out to local businesses for their financial support. The club was not disappointed, David said, and within a few days, well over £2,000 had been donated from those the club refers to as, "OUR HEROES."

The Christmas Float will start touring on November 24 following the Christmas light switch on in Holywell centre at 4.30pm.

This will be followed by the light switch on in Bagillt on November 27 and Flint Town Centre on November 30.
