WREXHAM-based Nightingale House Hospice has launched a gift card that can be spent in its fundraising shops across North East Wales.

The dedicated Charity Shop Gift Card has been developed in partnership with the Charity Retail Association and is available to buy and spend in all 14 Nightingales branded shops.

The aim is to encourage local people to shop in a sustainable and socially responsible way that will raise vital funds for the important work of Nightingales and to help reduce the amount of unwanted items being sent to landfill.

The gift cards themselves are made from recycled card and are compostable.

Nightingales' shops in Borras, Mold, Wrexham, Buckley, Oswestry and Whitchurch help to raise the funds needed to provide services for individuals and their families living within North East Wales and the border areas who are living with a diagnosis of a progressive and / or life-limiting illness.

Kate Roberts, head of retail for Nightingales, said: “We’re really excited to be joining the scheme. With buying secondhand increasing both out of necessity and due to environmental concerns, this feels like the right time for our shops to get involved.”

Lee Fellows, co-founder of The Charity Shop Gift Card, said: “We’re delighted to now be working with Nightingale House Hospice adding some great charity shops to the network of shops.

"The scheme is now growing rapidly making it an ideal gift for people that want to shop more consciously and reduce their impact on the environment.”

Second-hand shopping has never been so popular with the Charity Retail Association (CRA) reporting rising year-on-year sales at member stores as more shoppers look for ways of spending their money in a more environmentally and socially conscious way.

The CRA has 450 members with 9,000 shops, and together they are already diverting over 300,000 tonnes of textiles away from landfill and contributing over £300million every year to help fund the work of their parent charities.

The Charity Shop Gift Card for goods is also being accepted in the local shops of national charities Sense, Marie Curie, Shelter, Crisis, YMCA and The Children’s Society.
