A PUBWATCH scheme is said to be helping make a Flintshire town a 'safer place to be'.

Pubwatch schemes are local, independent groups formed of people working in licensed premises.

The main objectives of groups are to:

  • Tackle and prevent anti social behaviour and criminal activity
  • Promote safe drinking environments for customers and secure working environments for staff
  • Improve communication and sharing information between licensees

Members of the Buckley Pubwatch team held their monthly meeting earlier in October and it was the most well-attended one to date.

Representatives from the Tivoli, the White Lion, the Blue Anchor, Ewloe Sports and Social Club and the Horse and Jockey were all present.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police, who work in collaboration with the Pubwatch team, said that the scheme is helping make Buckely 'a safer place to be'.

In September, a warning over fake ID's was issued to pubs in the area.

Action taken against anyone put on 'Pubwatch' usually ranges from written warnings, to 'banning orders' where the individual, for a set period of time, is not allowed to enter any of the licensed premises operated by the members of the Pubwatch group.

A spokesperson for NWP's South Flintshire team said: "With this month's meeting being the best attended yet, Pubwatch Buckley is going from strength to strength.

"Thank you to everyone who attends (or sent their apologies), your efforts really are helping to make Buckley a safer place to be."

The Buckley Pubwatch scheme was re-launched by police in May of this year to help ensure a safe night-time environment in the town.

Next month's Pubwatch meeting will be held at The White Lion, Mold Road, Buckley on November 28 at 10.30am.
