A MAN went "too far" by causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to his former-friend's car, a court heard.

Daniel Aston, of Fir Brook Avenue in Connah's Quay, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 28-year-old admitted that on April 4 this year in Bagillt, he damaged an Audi A3 to the value of £7,485.76.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court the owner of the car, Jake Blackwell, had been in bed at around 6.20am on the day of the offence when he heard loud banging outside.

He heard a male and female shouting, and when he came to his front door he saw Aston.

Ms Jackson said the victim knew Aston - they had been friends in the past, and had known each other for around eight years.

But the friendship ended due to a disagreement over money.

Aston's behaviour on that morning was captured on CCTV - with footage showing him climbing onto Mr Blackwell's car and jumping up and down on it.

He got off it, then climbed back on and continued.

His actions left the windscreen completely smashed, with damage also done to the top of the vehicle.

Mr Blackwell made a claim to his insurance for the repairs - estimated to be in the sum Aston was charged for - and he had to pay £550 towards it, as well as incurring costs to hire a car while his was fixed.

Ms Jackson asked the court to consider a compensation order of £1,050.

Ceri Lewis, defending, told the court her client is a serving prisoner - having been recalled to serve the entirety of a 14 month sentence, for which he is due to be released on December 19 this year.

She explained: "He and his friend were driving along, and he has seen the vehicle belonging to the complainant.

The Leader:

"There have been cross words in the past.

"He fully accepts he has gone too far and this was not pre-planned. It was purely on impulse.

"We can't say it was reckless; it was clearly an intentional act."

She added it is hoped her client is going into meaningful employment on his release.

Aston received a six month custodial sentence, but it was suspended for 18 months.

He was ordered to pay £1,050 in compensation to the victim.
