A WREXHAM woman has been handed a community order after biting a person and assaulting two police officers in a drunken city centre incident.

Chloe Rigby, of Aled in Plas Madoc, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 25-year-old had admitted at a previous hearing that on July 29 this year in Wrexham, she assaulted a woman named Carol Foulkes, as well as two North Wales Police officers.

She had also admitted that on that occasion she was guilty, while drunk, of disorderly behaviour.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court that police were called to King Street on the day of the offence following reports about the defendant.

When they arrived, they found her intoxicated and she lashed out at officers Nathan Hosie and James Grimwood.

The Leader:

The court heard neither officer was physically assaulted or injured by her behaviour, but she had bitten Ms Foulkes, breaking her skin.

She was "clearly drunk," Mr Espie said.

Patrick Geddes, defending, made limited submissions to the court given a very detailed report from probation which set out his client's background and personal circumstances.

He noted she had no previous convictions, was a very low risk of reoffending and was genuinely remorseful for her actions towards the police and Ms Foulkes.

Mr Geddes also made reference to the fact that Rigby had been charged with the old 'assault PC' offence rather than the newer 'assault emergency worker,' meaning the four offences before the court were summary only.

Neither officer suffered any physical assault, he said, asking the court to go along with the sentencing proposal put forward by the probation service, which included rehabilitation activity and an alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement tag.

Jacqueline Jones, chair of the Magistrates, told the defendant: "I am sure you must reflect back to that day in July and have great remorse for what you did that day, in drink.

"You clearly need a lot of help and support."

She added that while the bench was minded to go along with the probation recommendation, it wasn't felt that the alcohol abstinence aspect of the proposed sentence was needed, as she is "not a regular binge drinker."

"We think this was probably a one-off," Ms Jones told her.

Rigby received an 18 month community order with 20 days of rehabilitation activity.

She must pay £200 in compensation to Ms Foulkes, in addition to £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
