A man who was caught drug driving with a provisional licence and no insurance has been banned for more than a year.

Jonathan Orr, of Gardden Road in Rhos, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The 37-year-old admitted that on July 25 at Gardden Road, he drove a Ford motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, without insurance and when the proportion of a controlled drug in his blood exceeded the specified limit.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question, police spotted Orr driving and suspected he may have taken a substance.

He was stopped and tested, with analysis confirming he had greater than 400 microgrammes of benzoylecognine (a cocaine breakdown product also referred to as BZE) in a litre of blood, the limit being 50.

It also turned out he only had a provisional licence, Mr Espie said.

The Leader:

Euros Jones said his client had previously served in the military, adding: "He was at a friend's house and was foolishly offered a line of cocaine, which he took.

"He instantly regretted it and the next day was on his way to the chemist at 10am.

"He picked up medication from the chemist and continued to drive home, not thinking anything of it until the police stopped him.
