And this afternoon, the River Gwenfro flowing through Wrexham has burst its banks.

Caia Park residents said they have "never seen it this bad" and described it as "scary".

Councillor Hugh Jones, Wrexham Council’s lead member for environment, said: “I want to express my appreciation to the staff of the Environment Department who have responded to the numerous calls from residents to deal with flooding.

"Roads have been closed and sand bags deployed in an attempt to minimise the impact of the storm.

“I am also grateful for the understanding and patience of residents recognising that we are responding at a time of a drastically reduced workforce due to industrial action. A number of staff have returned from leave in response to the call and their commitment is greatly appreciated.”
