A MAN was found dead at an address in Wrexham after stabbing himself, an inquest heard.
Jakub Bochocki, of Bernard Road, Wrexham, was found dead at an address on Gwenfro Road, Wrexham shortly before 11.30am on January 19, 2023.
At Ruthin County Hall on Tuesday (October 17), an inquest was held into the 32-year-old's death.
Evidence from Ewa Maslowska, a friend and work colleague of Mr Bochocki's, who found him at her home on the day of his death, was read out to the court.
The inquest heard that Mr Bochocki, who had moved to Wrexham between 2015 and 2016 for work, worked at Rowan Foods alongside Ms Maslowska.
The pair became friends and he would often stay at her home, their relationship was described as that of 'a family'.
Ms Maslowska said that on the morning of January 18, Mr Bochocki had arrived at her house worried, stating 'they are going to kill me'. When questioned, he continued to plead with his friend 'not to let them in'.
She claimed she had "never seen him behave like this before" and despite her best efforts to reassure her friend that there was no one outside the property, Mr Bochocki remained "very agitated" throughout the night.
However, in the morning, Ms Maslowksa said that he was "behaving like normal" and she left the house around 8am to do her shopping and visit a friend.
When she returned home at around 11.15am, she found Mr Bochocki lying on the floor in "a pool of blood" with a kitchen knife 5cm away from his hand.
She called the police shortly after discovering Mr Bochocki.
A post-mortem examination carried out by Dr Brian Rodgers confirmed a single stab wound to the chest.
Further examinations carried out discovered that there was no sign of forced entry at the address and there were no 'classic' defence injuries noted.
There were no drugs present in the blood or urine, but there was a small amount of alcohol present. The post-mortem also found evidence of alcohol abuse in Mr Bochocki's liver.
The knife found next to Mr Bochocki was 'entirely capable' of inflicting the fatal wound according to Mr Rodgers.
The medical cause of death provided was shock and haemorrhage due to stab wound penetrating the heart.
Kate Robertson, assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central, told the inquest Mr Bochocki had suffered 'paranoid thoughts' the night before taking a knife to his chest. She recorded a conclusion of suicide.
